What a Mentawai surf trip costs
There is no single number, and anyone quoting one without your dates is guessing. Four things move the price, and this page explains each of them.
The short answer
Four things move the number
Two surfers can pay very different amounts for the same fortnight. Almost all of the difference comes down to these four.

Season
April to October costs more, and July and August most of all. The quiet months are materially cheaper.

Boat or land
A charter carries crew, fuel and food for everyone on board; a land camp does not move.

Group size
A boat splits across its guests. Four friends and twelve friends pay very different per-person rates.

Length
Seven nights, ten or fourteen. The crossing costs the same either way, so longer trips cost less per day.

What your money buys
Trips in the Mentawais fall into three broad bands. The band decides comfort; the guiding is what decides your surf.
We quote per trip, not per night, because the transfer, the guiding and the boat days are what actually vary. Send your dates and we will break the number down line by line.
Timing and cost
The cheapest waves are the quiet ones
Peak season prices follow peak season swell. Rooms, cabins and guides are all in demand between April and October, and July and August are the top of that curve.
Travel in the shoulder or quiet months and the same trip costs less, with fewer people in the water. The trade is smaller, less consistent surf.
